Als der junge Brite John im Jahr 1936 nach Borneo zieht, um dort die Eingeborenen zu zivilisieren, trifft er dort auf eine Fremde Welt. Vor allem die Sitten sind ihm fremd, insbesondere, daß die schöne Selima ihm als Frau für alle Gelegenheiten zugewiesen wird. Doch es dauert nicht lang, bis die beiden sich tatsächlich ineinander verlieben.
