Die Familie von Raymond, seiner Frau Val und ihrem Bruder Billy lebt im Londoner Arbeiterviertel. Ebenfalls in ihrer Familie sind Val und Billys Mutter Janet und Großmutter Kath. Billy ist drogenabhängig und Raymond wirft ihn aus dem Haus, damit er alleine lebt. Raymond ist im Allgemeinen eine raue und sogar gewalttätige Person, was zu Problemen im Leben der Familie führt.
